What to do in a medical emergency if you have insurance

Nobody thinks calmly in an emergency. Save these steps: following them in order can save you paperwork and money.

  1. Deal with the emergency first

If a life is at risk, go to the nearest hospital or call 911. Your health comes before any paperwork.

  2. Let your advisor or the insurance company know

As soon as you can, let me know by WhatsApp or a call; I handle claims 24 hours a day. You can also call your insurance company's hotline, which is listed on your policy or card.

  3. Ask whether the hospital is in network

If the hospital is part of your insurance company's network, you can usually use direct billing: the insurance company pays the hospital and you only cover your deductible and coinsurance.

  4. Show your ID and your policy

At admissions, ask them to process your insurance. Keep your official ID and your policy or card number handy.

  5. Keep everything

Invoices, prescriptions, test results and medical reports. If the hospital is out of network or you pay first, you'll need them to request reimbursement.

  6. Let me handle the follow-up

I'll help you with the forms, the medical report and communication with the insurance company, so you can focus on getting better.

Tip

Save your policy number, your insurance company's hotline and my WhatsApp on your phone today. In an emergency, not having to look for them makes a big difference.
